Recognise Biases

Introductory classes

Engaging in critical thinking courses can enhance your cognitive abilities, improve your decision-making skills, and boost your problem-solving capacity. These courses enable you to sharpen your analytical thinking, evaluate information more effectively, and become better equipped to navigate complex issues in both personal and professional settings. These courses empower you to think critically, communicate effectively, and tackle challenges confidently and clearly.

Critical thinking involves analysing, evaluating, and synthesising information to make informed decisions and solve problems. It goes beyond memorisation and requires active engagement with ideas, the human spirit, and the community.

Objective:

To develop and enhance critical thinking skills by implementing structured exercises and practical applications which draw from a sense of curiosity.  When explored with YPI 4 Curious Minds, this becomes a plausible and exciting option for future learning.

What you will learn:

You will learn to identify and avoid common thinking mistakes that lead to the formation of ‘unhelpful’ beliefs. By being aware of these common mistakes and actively working to prevent them, you can improve your critical thinking skills, make more informed decisions, and develop more accurate beliefs based on evidence and sound reasoning.

Throughout the course, you will be actively engaged in learning and interesting conversations.  Annie and Tala will guide you through videos, articles, and practice exercises to enhance your critical thinking skills. This interactive approach will keep you engaged and motivated.

In the first week, we begin with an introduction to ‘Recognising Biases’. Today, it is essential to recognize biases because they can influence our thoughts, decisions, and actions without our realising them.

Positive outcomes;

  • Improve Decision-Making
  • Enhance Critical Thinking
  • Foster Empathy and Understanding
  • Prevent Discrimination and Prejudice
  • Promote Objectivity
  • Build Trust and Credibility

In week two/three, we introduce ‘Analysing Assumptions’
We provide relatable examples to illustrate assumptions and guide you in identifying your own.
By analysing assumptions, you will carefully examine beliefs or ideas considered trustworthy or taken for granted and evaluate whether they are valid or accurate. It involves questioning why certain things are true and exploring whether those beliefs are based on evidence or assumptions. Analysing assumptions, you can better understand a situation or problem and make more informed decisions.

In weeks four through six, we will engage in a course of curiosity and explore how to Question and synthesise information.
You will engage in our revolutionary educational support system (YPI 4 Curious Minds) that focuses on the significance of critical thinking, emotional intelligence, and cognitive development.  Our platform provides an effortless and intelligent approach to self-directed learning and creates authentic pathways by allowing you to follow your curiosity and develop critical thinking.

Weeks seven and eight will focus on exploring your learning and practising your critical thinking skills, debating, sharing, reflecting, and engaging in games!
